Samsung Austin Semiconductor
In October 2021, Samsung said its plans to build a $17 billion semiconductor factory in Taylor, amid a global shortage of chips used in phones, cars, and other electronic devices. This is the largest foreign direct investment in the state of Texas. The Texas plan is reported to be built in 2022 and hopes to begin operations in the second half of 2024 and bring in over 2,000 jobs according to NPR .
Tesla
Tesla has officially moved its headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Austin announced in October 2021. It was reported that a few details were given on the timing of the move. In 2020, Tesla announced building the Tesla Giga Texas factor that will house over 5,000 employees with its Model Y and Cybertruck production set early next year.
Whole Foods
Whole Foods expands its Downtown Austin headquarters in their $38M project where the company broke ground on a five-story expansion to its corporate headquarters. The project details emerged in October 2021 that indicates a 132,942 sq ft "Whole Foods SW Distribution Center" in Manor.
Touchdown PR
In October 2021, public relations firm Touchdown PR will move its global headquarters to its new office in North Central Austin and plans to hire 20 new staff members expanding its headcount to 35 in the city. Touchdown has locations across the UK, Europe, Australia and Asia.
REE Automotive
Electric vehicle manufacturer REE Automotive relocated its headquarters to Austin announced in July 2021 to address the growing demand of mission-specific EVs from delivery to logistics in the U.S.
Amazon
Amazon could become Austin's next largest private employer. It was announced in 2021 that the multinational technology company will be opening its new delivery station set to open in 2022. The company leased 315,000 sq ft off Decker Lane and more than 200 jobs are expected at the new facility according to KXAN.
2020
Oracle
In December 2020, software giant Oracle Corporation announced moving its headquarters to Austin from Redwood City, California. Oracle's current Austin workforce is estimated at about 2,500 according to the Austin Chamber.
AirTable
In 2020, San Francisco-based software maker Airtable announced opening an Austin office and plans to hire 100 people. By October 2021, it was reported that the company has slowly settled in Austin, TX.
Canva
Graphic design software platform's sales and marketing open its first U.S. office in Austin. It began its lease in August 2020 at 200 E. Sixth St, Chad Jewell, and is said to run through August 2022.
Boston Consulting Group
The Boston-based global consulting firm expanded its operations in February 2020 and has employed over 60 people in its downtown Austin office.
FileTrail
Another California company moved its headquarters to Austin in 2020. The software company specializing in information governance and records management for law firms processed its relocation from San Jose, CA to Austin, TX in April 2020.
2019
Facebook opened its Austin office in 2019 and is expanding in downtown Austin entering Pflugerville. According to the Austin Business Journal, the social media giant has leased more than 32,000 sq ft of warehouse space in Pflugerville, TX.
Google opened an Austin office in 2007, and in 2019 they signed a lease to occupy a 35-story office building located in the downtown Austin area. Google has over 1,500 employees in Central Texas according to the Austin American-Statesman.
Progressive Insurance
The insurance call center stated that they are expecting to hire 1,000 people in Austin in 2019 which is the largest hiring forecast in Progressive's history.
2018
Apple
It was announced in 2018 that tech giant, Apple will be expanding its production on its $1 billion, 3-million sq ft campus in Austin, Texas. It will initially house 5,000 employees with the capacity to grow to 15,000. It is expected to open in 2022.
Home Depot Technology Group
In 2018, Home Depot announced its huge hiring plan of 500 tech workers in Austin as part of its $11.1 billion three-year strategic investment plan.
Hyliion
Hyliion, hybrid electrification technology development/manufacturing for tractor-trailers, moved their headquarters to their 80,000 sq ft custom-designed office in Cedar Park in 2018. The facility is home to all departments from research & development, to sales, marketing, IT, and administration.
Indeed
In 2018, Indeed expanded its operations bringing in 1,500 jobs. The world's number one job site's expansion includes two new office developments totaling over 615,000 sq ft in Downtown and north Austin.
